Mission Statement

The Family Connection is a non-profit, non-denominational, peer-support, parent volunteer group. Our mission is to provide information, friendship, fun and recreation to parents and young children in the Greater Lowell Area. Our biggest program is a twice-weekly playgroup, which offers a simple craft lesson, light snack and large indoor area where children can play in a safe environment.

Who are we?

In the fall of 1992 a young mother new to Lowell was in search of an opportunity for her toddles to play with other children. Family members were far away, she didn't know the neighbors yet, and her calls to various local organizations didn't turn up any meeting places for families.

Meanwhile, another mother was thinking about how different life is for families today than it is when her own mother was raising children. The informal network of neighborhood children playing together and mothers supporting each other had become a thing of the past. Now children are often in daycare or preschool during the day and a new mother might not often find opportunity to meet the other mothers on her street. She envisioned a place where parents and young children could drop by, play and converse, and form the friendships that would support them in the task of raising a family.

With the help of the Rev. David C. Williams and the Pawtucket Congregational Church, these two women found each other, and The Family Connection of Greater Lowell was born.
